At Meyer, Shaffer & Stepans we strive to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. We understand that reporting sexual assault and abuse can be extremely taxing and come at a heavy emotional and physical cost to those who have been wronged. 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed assault, and 2 of every 3 of those assaults go unreported to the police.
The fear of retaliation is the number one reason why sexual assault and abuse goes unreported, followed closely by the belief that there is nothing anyone can do to help. The perpetrators of these crimes often times create an environment that feels hopeless, which in turn makes it difficult for their victims to feel like they have any power to create change. At Meyer, Shaffer & Stepans we are passionate about advocating for those who have been wronged, making sure their voices are heard, and creating the change that needs to occur in today’s society.
We have experience in representing women, men, and children who have been victims of sexual assault and abuse. We understand how difficult it is for our clients to come forward and seek legal assistance, and we strive to ensure that when they do, they receive the support they need in order to heal, feel empowered, and thrive in their day to day lives.
